Classic Homemade Pupusas (Print Version)

# Ingredients:

01 - 1 cup refried beans (could skip this).
02 - 1 cup cheese, shredded.
03 - 2 tablespoons butter or lard.
04 - 2 cups masa harina.
05 - Oil for frying.
06 - 1 to 2 cups hot water.
07 - 1 teaspoon chicken bouillon powder (optional).
08 - 1/2 teaspoon salt.

# Instructions:

01 - Stir together masa harina, seasoning, and salt. Pour the hot water in small amounts until it’s like moldable clay. Softened butter should be worked in at the end.
02 - Divide the dough into 12 chunks, making them the size of golf balls. Cover with a wet towel to keep them soft.
03 - Press each dough ball flat, place beans and cheese in the middle, fold the edges up, and gently press into disks about 3 inches wide.
04 - Warm oil on a griddle or pan. Fry each one for about 3 minutes per side until crispy and golden.

# Notes:

01 - Wet hands to stop dough from sticking.
02 - Don’t flip until it’s crusty.
03 - Best to cook them as soon as you make them.
