Preheat the oven to 425°F.

Add the shredded chicken in a layer in the bottom of a well-greased 9x13-inch baking dish.

Place the butter and flour in a saucepan over medium heat. Whisk until combined and the butter is melted.

Slowly whisk the milk into the saucepan mixture until well combined. Saute until the mixture thickens.

Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the ranch dressing along with salt and pepper to taste.

Pour the sauce mixture evenly over the chicken in the baking dish. Sprinkle 1 cup of shredded cheese over the sauce.

Layer the tater tots on top of the chicken mixture.

Bake the casserole for 20 minutes.

Remove the casserole from the oven, layer it with the bacon crumbles and the remaining 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese.

Return to the oven and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the tater tots are cooked completely and crispy.
