Baked Red Churros (Print Version)

# Ingredients:

→ Churros

01 - 2 teaspoons of cocoa powder with no added sugar
02 - 1 cup of water
03 - ⅓ cup butter (use reduced-fat)
04 - ½ teaspoon of salt
05 - 1 large egg, at room temp
06 - ¼ cup packed brown sugar
07 - 1 teaspoon of vanilla essence
08 - 2 tablespoons olive oil
09 - 1 cup plain flour
10 - 2 teaspoons of red food dye or a tablespoon of beet juice

→ Coating

11 - ¼ cup superfine sugar

→ Serving

12 - Chocolate spread like Nutella for dipping

# Instructions:

01 - Set your oven to 390°F. Cover a baking tray with parchment paper.
02 - Combine cocoa powder and flour in a bowl by whisking them together.
03 - In a medium pot, melt oil and butter. Toss in water, salt, sugar, and color. Let it bubble for 5 minutes. Stir in the dry mixture.
04 - Let that mix cool for 10 minutes. Add the egg and vanilla, and beat till smooth.
05 - Pipe out strips about 4 inches long. Bake for 10 minutes at 390°F, then reduce heat to 350°F for 7-10 minutes.
06 - While still warm, cover them in sugar and pair with a chocolate dip to enjoy.

02 - Beet juice is a natural alternative to food dye
