Braided Apple Pie (Print Version)

# Ingredients:

→ Filling

01 - 2½ pounds apples, cored, sliced, and peeled (use 4-5 big ones)
02 - 2 Tbsp unsalted butter
03 - ¼ cup packed brown sugar
04 - ½ cup white sugar
05 - ¼ tsp salt
06 - 1 tsp cinnamon powder
07 - ¼ tsp ginger powder
08 - ½ tsp allspice
09 - 2 Tbsp cornstarch
10 - 2 Tbsp plain flour
11 - 1 Tbsp fresh lemon juice

→ Dough and Topping

12 - One box (14.1 oz.) refrigerated crusts (2 sheets)
13 - 1 beaten egg mixed with 1 Tbsp of water
14 - Vanilla ice cream (optional topping)
15 - 2 Tbsp sanding or turbinado sugar

# Instructions:

01 - Melt butter in a big pan, then cook apples with both sugars and spices until softened. Mix in flour and cornstarch, stir as it thickens. Add the lemon juice, then cool it down.
02 - Stack both pie crusts, roll them into an 11-by-18-inch rectangle. Spread the cooled apple mixture evenly.
03 - Roll the dough into a tight log, slice it in half lengthwise, and twist the pieces together with the cut sides showing.
04 - Brush the top with the egg mixture, add coarse sugar, and bake for 18-20 minutes at 375°F until golden.
